Chances are you’ll be home a lot more than planned over the next few weeks, with the recent news of the global pandemic. While this may elevate worries around coronavirus symptoms, it’s best to be prepared to ensure your house remains protected at this time.
With this in mind, here’s some home security advice to see you through.
Keep good habits
Even if you’re just popping out to the shops, or visiting a relative, it’s imperative to maintain your usual standards. If you have invested in a home security system , keep using this – setting alarms when you go out at any times.
Ensure your details are up to date
Now is also a good time to check that your details are up to date. Ensure any monitored alarm response teams have your latest details to monitor your alarm, especially if you are working remotely. This means phone and email address details. Are you due an alarm service? Make the call.
Use wireless
We all know that good hand hygiene is essential at this time. Therefore, to minimise contact with surfaces, ensure you are using WiFi technology where possible. Many home security products like these, can be accessed using remote Apps. Check with your provider to see if you can upgrade your model if not.
Clean surfaces
Remember of course that surfaces should be kept clean. Regularly wipe your home security devices that come into contact with people, using soap and water or disinfectant products. Keep in mind that some alcohol products may be abrasive and best kept to hard wearing surfaces.
Clean all items and surfaces regularly when you come into contact with them. This includes keypads and login systems. Don’t forget that mobile phones need to be kept clean too.
These are just some of the ways that you can stay protected during this difficult time. Please refer to the HSE's website official website for any further guidance during this time. Together, we will get through this pandemic and come out stronger the other side.
