How Does Fire Alarm Maintenance Work? And Why Do I Need It?

Many people think that once their fire alarm system has been installed, they no longer need to think about it. For the most part, that is true; your fire alarm and smoke detectors will not be something you need to worry about when they’ve been installed by ProSecurity’s team of licensed Galway-based professionals.
However, commercial business owners or homeowners tend to forget that regular maintenance is a fundamental part of our job at ProSecurity. Making sure that they work properly is obviously vital to us. We take this maintenance process very seriously, and so does the law. If you have an IS 3218 commercial fire alarm system installed in apartments and hotel spaces, where people sleep, or have more than 20 devices at your premises, you are obligated by law to have a maintenance service on a quarterly basis. For other properties, the requirement is every six months.

Even if it seems like all the alarms are working as they should, it is not worth taking that chance. As a business owner, you have too much to protect in terms of both assets and personnel.

Our Fire Alarm Maintenance Process

Upon installing your fire alarm system, our team will organise specific dates over the next year for when we will return to undertake a maintenance service. We shall notify you over the phone or email closer to the date, ahead of agreeing on a mutually agreeable time for a visit. On the appointed day, a team of licensed professionals will arrive at your commercial or domestic premises and undertake a comprehensive check of all your equipment.

This process will involve checking that the alarms are still linked, operational, and actually working. A member of our team will activate the alarm system to check that all call points in the property are still active and working. On top of this, we will inspect each individual battery and replace them with fresh ones wherever needed.

Our team will always make sure you have the most up-to-date fire alarm apparatus at your property. Once there is a newer, more efficient system that we use for commercial and/or domestic properties, we will come to your property and install it for you at no extra charge.

If you have a fire alarm system that needs updating or checking, whether it’s been installed by us or someone else, we at ProSecurity would be happy to help. Please give us a call at any time to discuss fire alarm maintenance in Galway.

Installation
After drawing up all specifications and ensuring all areas of your premises are covered, our team of professionals come to your property to install your fire alarm apparatus. They will always double check that detectors and call points, along with their backups, are operating properly before leaving the property, ahead of putting the system live.

Activation
Your fire alarm system will be activated if one of the detectors in your property picks up any hint of smoke or noxious gas in the property. A system has up to 32 zones of detection, depending on the dimensions of your particular commercial property, and once one of them has been activated, the whole apparatus will be triggered. Keep in mind that all detectors come with a backup battery to ensure they work in the event of a power failure.

Alert
Once your system has been activated, an alert is sent to our monitoring system in Galway, where our team of professionals can see the precise area where the alarm was initially tripped. They will be alerted immediately, and a notification will also be sent to your device through the mobile app. You can also use this app to activate the fire alarm system at any time.

Response
The monitoring station team will immediately get in touch with you over the phone, along with contacting the relevant fire authorities, who will be directed to your property moments after the alarm has been triggered. If needed, our team can then visit your premises to ensure that all call points and detectors, along with their backups, are still working properly.
